Dr Sue
McGaw, Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist, founded the
UK based NHS Special Parenting Service in 1988. Since then she
has continuously dedicated her time to the development of
parenting assessments, interventions, advocacy, professional
training, research, publications and resources for use with
parents with learning
disabilities.
In 1994 she was awarded her PhD from Exeter University
on 'Raising the Parental Competency of Parents with Learning
Disabilities'.
She has been the
British Psychological Society (BPS) spokesperson on the
topic of parents with learning disabilities for over 20 years.
Also, the BPS have recognised her as one of the top ten
Clinical Psychologists in the U.K.
She is an expert
witness for the British Law Society and frequently provides
training to the judiciary and professionals on this specialist
topic.
Dr McGaw is an executive member of the
International Association for the Scientific Study of
Intellectual Disabilities, a specialist interest group for
intellectual disabilities.
